Change Management Must Be Individualized to Be Successful, Agree Healthcare Execs

Hospital system executives in attendance at Modern Healthcare‘s Workplace of the Future Conference last month agreed: performance improvement and employee engagement are boosted when change management initiatives focus on individuals, instead of organizations.

Bon Secours Mercy Health, for example, has achieved great success in improving employee satisfaction by employing a psychographic screening tool at hire, to place candidates into the roles best suited for them, reported Alex Kacik.

“Getting employees to buy in,” he wrote, is “more challenging as health systems outsource services and navigate mergers and acquisitions.”

Another measure Bon Secours Mercy Health has been experimenting with is predictive software that tracks 70 different employee performance criteria.

The tool can predict “with 80% to 90% accuracy” whether an employee will leave within the next year, said Joe Gage, the hospital system’s chief HR executive.

“We will know how many nurses we need for the coming year and bake that into our budget,” Gage told conference attendees.
