Continuing Its Shift Away from Hospital-Based Medicine, Ascension Health Sells St. Vincent’s

One of the ongoing effects of the shift toward value-based care seems to be that some providers are getting out of the hospital business. One of them, Ascension Health, recently sold 473-bed, Connecticut teaching hospital St. Vincent’s to Hartford Health. The move is part of Ascension’s shift toward lower-cost, subacute services like telemedicine and outpatient care. Ascension will also hire its first executive-level Chief Digital Officer to oversee its pivot toward telemedicine.
