Be There San Diego, a collaborative launched in 2011, was able to slash the rate of hospitalization for heart attacks by 22%, as compared to 8% for the rest of California, according to recently published research. By analyzing hospital admissions data from 2007-2016, researchers determined that the collaborative achieved cost savings of $86 million and avoided roughly 3,826 unnecessary hospitalizations.

The collaborative brings together federal, state, and local government officials with physicians from the area’s health systems to share data and best practices in managing cardiovascular health to prevent hospitalizations. You can find the recent publication from Health Affairs here.
