Federal Government Moves to Allow More Health Insurance Competition, with Several Catches

The Trump administration moved Tuesday to relax Obamacare restrictions on short-term health plans, allowing insurance providers to offer up to 12 months of temporary coverage. But, critics point out, the move includes allowing insurers to charge higher premiums for pre-existing conditions, and the new health plans will no longer be required to cover mental health services or prescriptions. That, say some, reduces their potential value to patient consumers.
