Piedmont Hospital, along with five sister facilities, has sued insurers Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia and its parent company, Indianapolis-based Anthem, Inc. The Atlanta-based hospital has accused the insurer of running a “national scheme” to save money by refusing to pay for imaging done in hospitals rather than at free-standing facilities. Piedmont claims the new policy is a breach of contract and puts patients at significant risk.
