Radiology has not traditionally been the most obvious sector for patient engagement innovation. But Geraldine McGinty, MD, chair of the board of directors for the American College of Radiology believes it’s time to flip the script.
At the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine’s annual meeting, Dr. McGinty urged attendees to “put our patients in the center,” continuing, “I want to issue you a call to action because you are the people who are really shaping the infrastructure of technology supporting radiological care.” She noted that patients are often left waiting too long for reports, and breaking down the barriers between physician and patient can improve patients’ willingness to undergo life-saving screening.
