North Carolina-based hospital system Novant Health has announced that it will partner with GoHealth Urgent Care to staff fifteen co-branded urgent care centers in the Charlotte and Winston-Salem areas.
The move comes as hospital systems increasingly look for ways to secure their market share by leveraging urgent care centers’ popularity among American healthcare consumers. It marks GoHealth’s first foray into the southeastern US.
Although the new partnership plans to open additional clinics, it will first concentrate on retrofitting and re-branding several existing Novant Health clinics. Each location will provide on-site lab and x-ray services.
Some Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) will be replaced by Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) in the process, the Winston-Salem Journal‘s Richard Craver reported.
“The staffing model will change to meet the new model of care afforded by the partnership,” Novant spokeswoman Caryn Klebba told Craver. “If changes are necessary, we will work with team members to find positions that work best for them within Novant Health-GoHealth Urgent Care or Novant Health.”
