The number of Americans who lack a health insurance plan has decreased by nearly half, from 48.6 million in 2010 to just over 28 million in the first quarter of 2018, according to new data from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Still, approximately 1 in 8 Americans remains uninsured — a rate that has held steady since 2015, reported ThinkAdvisor‘s Alex Tanzi. Moreover, the distribution of uninsured persons is uneven.
Uninsured rates continue to be higher than the national average in some states. In Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, Tanzi noted, approximately 1 in 4 adults still lacks the coverage of a health insurance plan.
