Over Half of US Healthcare Organizations “Ready” for Value-Based Care, But Many Lack Infrastructure

A new Global Health Alliance survey of America’s health systems and providers found that over 60% believe they are ready to shift toward value-based care (VBC) delivery models, but at least half report that they lack critical infrastructures that would support such a shift.

50 percent of health system executives who responded to GHA’s survey noted that they perceived their organizations as “very weak” or “somewhat weak” in the areas of technology, governance structures and operational structures.

According to Healthcare Finance associate editor Jeff LeGasse, this is highly concerning because, “twenty-three percent of patients are currently in value-based programs and that’s expected to close to double to 46 percent over the next three years.”

“Even with the reported infrastructure challenges, overall responses in the GHA survey suggest that momentum continues to build for value-based care, and respondents expect strong growth,” he reported.
