A new, peer-reviewed article published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology demonstrated a correlation between a poor primary care patient experience and increased risk of subsequent hospitalization in Hispanic patients with chronic kidney disease.
Researchers continue to study the profound effects that a negative provider-patient relationship can have on patient outcomes.
The study, wrote University of California, San Francisco researcher Dr. Delphine S. Tuot in an accompanying editorial, provided further “evidence that better patient care experiences are also associated with less health care utilization.”
Improved patient experiences, she said, “provide a step toward the overarching goal of achieving the quadruple aim: high-quality and cost-effective care delivery that improves population health and achieves high satisfaction among providers, care-team members and patients.”
