Pilot programs like those run by Santa Monica start-up Heal are shifting the site of care from the doctor’s office to, well, the office. And they’re becoming increasingly popular with employers who want to ensure their employees’ wellness and maximize productivity.
Heal provides physician visits to corporate partners, enabling employees to see the doctor without having to miss work for an appointment. Many insurers now cover the visits and some, like Blue Shield of California, have added such programs to their preferred provider networks.
Heal physicians only visit a given company when an employee requests an on-site visit through its app.
“It allows us to have a lot of time with patients without being distracted by other patients,” said Heal physician Dr. Anju Goel. “We don’t have the same time constraints as a typical office setting. I can spend as long as I need with a patient.”
The startup currently operates in several markets in California, including San Francisco and Los Angeles, and has plans to expand to New York and other major markets. it’s already raised $59 million from investors to do so, reported Catherine Ho.
