Study: Community HIEs Contribute to Reduced Costs

0

The results of a new study conducted by researchers at Indiana University suggest that community health information exchanges (HIE) are more likely than enterprise HIEs to reduce costs and wasteful utilization.

The most recent study builds upon a similar one conducted in 2015. The new batch of evidence is reported to be significantly stronger than previous data, with one potential reason being that the HIEs reviewed are now more mature than in the past. That means more time to work out any issues and significantly more usage.

Conclusions point toward more widespread application of value-adding technologies and principles in pursuit of lower costs and better outcomes nationally.
