A multi-year study by Portland State University researchers concluded that every dollar Oregon invested in expanding access to primary care, since implementing its Patient-Centered Primary Care Home initiative in 2009, has yielded $13 in additional savings over the continuum of care. By 2016, it amounted to $240 million in total savings for the state.
“Primary care must be an integral part of any truly effective health care reform strategy,” argued Quartz Media’s Chris Carrera. “Health care policy, payment and delivery design need to be consistent with that to which the evidence points. And, the evidence points squarely at primary care.”
