Recent analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation reveals that in many areas, nearly 20% of adults reported not being able to see a doctor due to prohibitive costs.

Drawing on data from the past five years, the results chart a consistent trend across the United States. In 2017, for instance, the Southeast was the worst region with almost all states barring Tennessee and Kentucky sitting between 15.2-19.6%. Those numbers are relatively consistent across the data sets. Other states have improved though, such as California, which has seen a decrease from 15.6% in 2013 to 11.8% in 2017.

The data were based on the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). You can view the full interactive results here.
