Precision medicine seems to be popping up everywhere these days, especially when it comes to oncology treatment. Many of the top research hospitals and tech companies, notably IBM Watson, are partnering to advance the field toward greater understanding and treatment of a variety of medical conditions.
But a survey conducted by the Personalized Medicine Coalition and GenomeWeb found that among 1,001 Americans, only 13% felt “very informed” about precision medicine. And a scant 9% had ever heard of the National Institutes of Health’s pioneering All of Us research program.
However, that doesn’t mean that the public is against personalized treatment. 82% of those polled reported wanting to learn more about precision medicine, with 32% “very interested”.
