The Trump Administration today released its “American Patients First” drug pricing and cost-control blueprint, accompanied by a statement from Department of Health and Human Services Secretary (HHS) Alex Azar. The blueprint highlights key challenges in the American drug market including high list prices, out-of-pocket costs for consumers and government programs overpaying for necessary drug treatments. “Not only are costs spiraling out of control, but the scientific landscape is changing as well,” Azar said. “Securing the next generation of cures for the next generation of American patients will require radical reforms to how our system works.”
