VA Launches Pledge for Open Application Programming Interface

During a keynote speech at HIMSS18, Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) David Shulkin announced a pledge focused on improving Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and providing open application programming interfaces to develop better healthcare apps for veterans. Shulkin urged the audience to sign the pledge and commit to working with the VA to design veteran-focused mobile and web apps along with a “common clinical data set”. Among those health systems that have already signed the pledge are the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Intermountain Healthcare, Partners HealthCare, Rush Health Systems and Geisinger Health System.
