Interim Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Robert Wilkie has announced a deadline of May 28th for the decision concerning whether Cerner will be the winner of a $16 billion EHR overhaul contract. The announcement comes as expected despite the VA’s state of limbo, with former Secretary Dr. David Shulkin having been supportive of Cerner as well. However, the lack of leadership remains the primary issue for the Department, as President Trump’s recent pick for Secretary, Dr. Ronny Jackson, removed his name from consideration amid allegations of professional misconduct.
